THANK YOU!!!!

I feel like we need to formally thank everyone who came out and busted their butts today to help us get so much done! First and foremost our parents, who did't stop for a minute and continually kept everyone motivated and moving, Katy, you kicked butt with the paint all day, I'm sorry I didnt't get to see you more, but I certainly can see the fruits of your labor! Paul and Laura; wow, we didn't expect you guys to drive over all the way from Norfolk, but boy do we appreciate it and it was great seeing you again. Mike, you took to oil paint like a champ and I can tell you like ripping up those tack strips, we should have a few more for ya tomorrow! Rusty, what can I say you were there before any of us this morning, and were also the last one to leave, thats dedication, and after being up until 4:30 in the morning? Gold Star for you, pal, I hope you get some sleep tonight.

Progress! Hopkins House Thrash Weekend, Day 1

Mike and Rusty hard at work pulling out tack strips and staples from the carpet and padding

Trim has first good coat of white, will need a second coat but what a difference already!

Mother-in-law extrordinare's handy work with the wallpaper removal, she had a score to settle with that wallpaper!

Look from the back wall of the dining room, everyone working extremely hard.

Katy and Tabb painting trim in the master, oil paint is stinky!

Living room with carpet gone! Hallelujia!

Beautiful!

Test coat of paint, carpet will come up once painting is complete.

Wow! All that in a day! Thank you everyone so much! We cannot find the words to truly expressour thanks to all that helped! We are certainly indebted to you all! I can't imagine what kind of headway we are going to make tomorrow, stay tuned and find out!

Beginning to look alot like Christmas

Here's the pull from today: paint of every color and sheen, brushes of every shape and size, hammers pry bars, respirators, gloves, step stool, mini blinds, floor cleaning kits, and so much more. Funny thing is; this is gonna be the smallest haul yet. Look out Ikea.

Wanna Help?

Anyone keeping up with our blog, you are most certainly welcome to join us this weekend, May 9th and 10th to help us get some work done! We will be painting 2, hopefully 3 rooms, all of the trim, removing some wallpaper, possibly ripping out that ugly mauve carpet, and pulling some cabinets down. We plan on starting around 9am both Saturday and Sunday. I fyou can make it or want to get specific directions, drop us a line: 757-754-8481. There will be plenty of food and drink!

Done for today

Done with posting the pictures of our starting point, for today. I have more to post, and I will do so soon. For all of you experienced bloggers, please forgive the layout weirdness with the posts, I'm new to this whole thing.

Rubadub Rubadub

Check the OG claw-foot tub. That's right, 1918 bathtub. Vanity, lighting, medicine cabinet, hardware: see ya! They will be pulled out in favor of something more traditional for the age of the home.

Insert Corny Flooring Joke Here:

Who would carpet over these hardwoods? Thank you, 1980s for your awful interior decorating influences. All that carpet is to be banished to the city dump.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Hole Saws

Four different locks, and four different keys. Now that's what I call confusing. No longer! Forgive the paint condition of the door, hole saws can do a number on paint where there are 6 coats of differing colors. The door will be repainted.

Starting Points: Dining Room

Dining Room; Love the crown moldings, hate that wallpaper, notice the far right corner of the room where we peeled the wallpaper off. There once was a built-in china cabinet. We'll see if we can coerce my father-in-law into rebuilding it over the original footprint

Starting points: Kitchen

Hideous 80s kitchen. Layout will be reworked. White cabinets with black granite-look counter tops, and gloss white appliances, of this generation.

Progress: Day 1

New door knobs and deadbolts, new storm door hardware. Ripped up some carpet to verify the condition of the hardwoods; good. Ripped off some wallpaper. Gonna need a steamer. Averted kitchen and living room arrangment crises. Big, busy, long day. Progress pictures soon.

Closing!

Welcome to our blog about our historic 1918 home. We closed today at 2 pm. Finally... More later.
